After our adventure on Mont Blanc du Tacul I was psyched for more big lines but unfortunately conditions were not favorable. Being stuck in the valley was becoming increasingly frustrating, so I headed up with Brendan O’Sullivan and Tom Coney for the smaller but very aesthetic East couloir of the Aiguille du Chardonnet. We caught the first lift up Grands Montets on a beautiful sunny morning, but I was struggling for motivation. The skin up the col du Chardonnet was uninspiring having been there many times before and Tom and Brendan had to endure my grumbling.

By the time we reached the start of the climb, after skiing down from the col du Chardonnet and then a short skin up my mood had improved. The atmosphere was light hearted and we enjoyed some banter on the boot pack. The conditions were variable but the skiing turned out to be a lot of fun. It had all been worth it in the end and its nice to have skied this hidden gem.
